Are you moving house or thinking about remodelling your kitchen? Interested in buying a cooker that fits in with your new lifestyle?
Cookers come in three basic designs: ranges, freestanding and built-in. They all do the same basic jobs, but a range is almost twice the size of a conventional oven and you really need a large room to accommodate one.
Ranges usually include two ovens, one multifunctional oven and one fan assisted. Available in gas or electric, contemporary designs offer a one piece ceramic hotplate that is both stylish and practical, a slow cook oven facility so you can roast a joint while you’re at work or even overnight while you sleep, and a large wok burner for unforgettable stir fry meals.
Many models offer pull out storage drawers and telescopic shelves, as well as optional finishes in easy clean enamel. There’s also often separate grills and ovens, a programmable timer, sometimes an integrated splash back and an optional LPG conversion kit for gas models.
Freestanding cookers will operate on electric or gas supplies as well. These employ ceramic or glass hotplates with a safety cut off switch. Double ovens come with a large oven for main meals and a smaller oven for warming and grilling food. A common feature is an LED clock with a handy minute minder to remind you when your meal is ready. Other options include a hotplate lid that closes when you’re finished cooking and helps keep the unit clean and tidy, an automatic programmer for greater control and zoned heat that guarantees a more even cooking experience.
Built-in cookers can also be purchased in gas or electric and offer the perfect solution when space is at a premium. These include single or double ovens depending on their size. The latest technological advance means that no preheating is required on some models, while intuitive controls and accurate temperature displays make cooking as straight forward as it can possibly be.
Hobs to match are commonly available in ceramic and halogen with a touch control panel, timer and child lock for extra security. These also often have a raised ridge to separate the controls from the heating elements. Gas hobs provide automatic ignition, a central wok burner and removable control knobs for easy cleaning.
Accessories include cooker extraction hoods in matching styles and colours, which include white, grey, silver, stainless steel, aluminium, green, charcoal and cream.
