Are you fed up with those piles of dishes left in the sink every night? Or are you simply too tired to bother with them at the end of a busy day? Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to shove them under the counter top and out of the way? Well, maybe you can!
Luckily the latest range of dishwashers can solve your problems easily, regardless of the size of your kitchen or the number of dishes you normally get through. Products come in full-size or slimline versions to fit just about anywhere you need them. Popular colours include basic white, grey or stainless steel, although more colours are becoming available all the time.
Slimline models will generally hold 8 to ten place settings, while full-size machines are capable of coping with 12. Depending on the size of your family, you can usually load the machine over the course of several days and will only need to set it washing a few times every week. Most dishwashers are programmable with adjustable temperature settings like you find on a washing machine. Some models offer a rapid or quick wash function for times when there are only a few items to wash, and some sort of flood protection system in case of damaged or faulty hoses or machinery.
Full-size units tend to offer more flexibility in programming and temperature adjustment. Other standard features you can expect include low water and energy consumption for a more efficient wash, electronic controls with programme sequence lights, advanced control systems and LED indicators.
More expensive designs offer you extra rinse and hold programmes, hot air drying facility and buzzers and lights to let you know when the cycle has finished. You can also purchase integrated units that can be covered to match your existing cabinet doors. These usually have controls fitted on the top edge so you can get at them more easily.
Freestanding units often employ hidden control panels to keep your kitchen looking crisp and clean. Modern benefits also include low noise levels and a delay timer which lets you wash and dry your dishes when you’re out or even while you’re asleep.
If space is an issue, you can purchase half-size dishwashers that will fit on your worktop. These are slightly bigger than a microwave and made to handle smaller loads, but they tend to be less efficient and have fewer programmable features than their bigger cousins.
