Do you need a more effective way to keep your lawn neat and tidy? In the market for a new lawnmower that makes grass cutting a pleasure and not so much of a chore?
Lawnmowers come in a variety of designs including electric and petrol powered, rotary and hover systems, hand push or self propelled. Electric mowers tend to feature adjustable wheel height for cutting variable thickness of grass, while hover mowers are apt to be lighter with only two height adjustments and are typically used for cutting shorter grass. Both models can include an easy start function and ergonomic controls fitted on the handles where you need them. Most electric machines come with a 10-15 meter cable.
Rotary mowers normally have four wheels and an electric motor. These often give the purchaser the option for right or left handed use. Rotary machines are generally powerful but quiet in performance and are ideal for medium size lawns, equipped with a grass collection tray and integrated carry handles.
Electric cylinder mowers are frequently fitted with a rear roller which gives the professional striped effect to lawns, and some make use of a Z-fold handle for easy storage.
More expensive mowers will collect the grass and compact it, so you won’t have to empty the collection box as frequently. Some come with viewing areas so you can chart your progress and actually see when the box is full. Others include an easi-reel cable to make storage simpler and more convenient.
Petrol mowers are naturally hands free and tend to be more powerful for work in larger gardens and denser grass. These run on a 4-stroke engine and are available in self-propelled or push versions. Some use a 3-in-1 combination system for grass collection, rear discharge or recycled finish.
At the top end of the range you can purchase sit-on or ride-on mowers, perfect for very large gardens and sprawling country estates. These often offer a key start facility as you’d find in a car. Some also include a front fitted spring loaded comb that lifts the grass before cutting it. Other designs feature detachable seating so you can use the mower to get at areas you aren’t able to drive into.
Then there’s always the hand-push mower with rotating rear blades that requires no petrol or electric at all, perfect for small gardens, remote areas or even to help keep your allotment looking its best.
