T-mobile makes its own handsets but is perhaps better known for the network services it provides. These include a number of packages which T-Mobile believes will help make your life easier and your phone usage more flexible.
The first of these is the U-fix plan, in which you fix your monthly spending limit in advance based on a rough idea of the number of calls, texts and messages you normally send and receive. You can also top up your limits if you run out, so it’s really the same as pay as you go.
T-mobile offers the SIM only service for those customers who already have a phone but want to change networks while keeping the same handset. This service is available in monthly contracts or pay as you go packages.
Then there’s the Web ‘n’ Walk package, which is a monthly plan in which you can purchase call time and internet browsing limits in advance and tailor your choice to get more web time or more phone time, depending on your needs.
Apart from the names attached to these plans, they’re similar to other packages you can get from other networks. T-mobile tends to stock its own limited range of mobile phones as well as Motorola handsets, so you might want to look around to get more choice. But T-mobile has got another trick up its sleeve.
You can now purchase the Sidekick II, a complete all-in-one communication device which is exclusive to T-mobile in the UK. This features a flip open and swivel cover that gives it the appearance of a small laptop when opened. It has a big colour screen that puts other phones to shame.
The Sidekick II is a phone, of course, with hands free operation courtesy of a speaker phone. But it’s more than a phone, coming with ‘always live’ internet access so you can surf and send email as soon as you pick it up from the shop. It also features automatic wireless synchronisation to your desktop interface so you can save all your valuable information to your PC.
As well as the larger screen to make pictures, video and web browsing more enjoyable and attractive, it comes with a full QWERTY keyboard to make typing, texting and email easier and faster. It incorporates a built-in digital camera with flash, and lets you play games, download ringtones, listen to music and so on. As if that wasn’t enough, the unit includes a personal organiser for storing addresses, appointments and remembering important dates.
