Many people like the idea of being able to do all their exercises in one convenient place, but are not keen on going to the gym every week and being gawped at by others. If you fall into this category, then maybe you should purchase your own home-style multi gym.
Multi gyms are of two basic types: those that use weight stacks and those that use traction ropes and pulleys. For general toning up and everyday health and fitness requirements, you can purchase a starter gym. This is an all-in-one exercise facility with seat and back rests which gives you access to bench press, chest press and overhead weight pull down handlebars, leg exercise rollers and so on. Normally of the weight stack variety, modern designs make it easy to change weights quickly and painlessly. The deep padded vinyl seat and backrest make you as comfortable as possible while you exercise, while the handles and leg rollers are fitted with foam grips to protect your hands and fingers.
Other more expensive designs use a Kevlar traction rope for direct working without giving you any feelings of distension (tightness or swelling). Some of these are of a quality you would expect to find in a posh health club. Everything is compact and, once set up, within easy reach for maximum efficiency, including angled handles to minimise stress on your wrists. These models are versatile enough to target all the major muscle groups and let you exercise your chest, back, abdominal region, shoulders, biceps, triceps and leg muscles in comfort and safety.
Even more expensive models (they range from £200-2000 and beyond) employ a cable motion system that provides you with a virtually unlimited variety of exercises. Again these are compact and the space-saving design means you can locate your gym almost anywhere you like in the house. Using a system of pulleys and cables, these are ideal for both maintaining day to day fitness levels or for more advanced sports related training.
Most systems come complete with set-up instructions and a guide to using the product safely and accurately, with sample exercises to help you familiarise yourself with the equipment. In most cases everything you need is included with your original purchase, although it is possible to order replacement parts from most high street and online suppliers. Before you make your purchase, it might be worth your while going to the gym just once to find out which type of multi gym you prefer and to see for yourself what’s included with each system.
